The conditions in India will always help the slower bowlers thrive as the match goes on and the pitches begin to tire out. The pitches sometimes take vicious turn and along with the variable bounce and the tricks that the mind of a batsman starts playing, Spin becomes King and the value of having good spinners in your team cannot be undermined. India currently possess very good spinners and they have a lot of options to play around with. Let us look at the spin department of India that will try to make life difficult for the opposition batsmen.
Ravichandran Ashwin
R Ashwin is a tall off-spinner who has excellent control on his line and length and possesses the dangerous carom-ball along with the big turning off-break. He is generally called upon to bowl in the power-play and is also often summoned by Dhoni to bowl in the final stages of the game. He is a brilliant reader of the game situation and his match awareness is excellent.
Ashwin has been the fulcrum around which the Indian bowling seems to revolve in the crucial middle overs when Dhoni unleashes his spinners on the opposition batsmen. He was tidy, if not sensational, in India’s 3-0 win in the T20 series down under where he picked up 4 wickets. He will be a big threat on the Indian pitches to negotiate and how he goes might well decide India’s fate as well.
Impact Rating – 8/10
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja was the butt of many jokes on the social media for both his batting and bowling. But he has flowered beautifully and grown dramatically as a bowler in recent times so much so that he is the best left arm spinner in India at the moment. He was the best Indian bowler in the recent Indian whitewash over Australia where he picked up 5 wickets in the three T20 matches.
Often darting the ball in to the batsmen’s pads and not allowing him to free his arms and swing through the line is his simple bowling mantra. But he can also slow it down and give the ball air, turning it just enough to sow the seeds of doubt in the minds of the batsmen. The fact that he is also an excellent fielder anywhere in the field and possesses a rocket arm only adds to his value. He is also a handy lower middle order batsman with the ability to score quick runs. Simply put, he is the most impact player for India in the T20 format at the moment!
Impact Rating – 8/10
These two spinners will be playing the major role for India in the ICC WT20 2016 but India also has the experienced offie Harbhajan Singh and the greenhorn left armer Pawan Negi as back-ups and just in case they want to play 3 spinners depending on the conditions and the opposition. Overall, a very potent and penetrative spin bowling attack that will give any opposition sleepless nights before the match.
