With almost all hope of qualifying for the semi final gone, they defeated Netherlands next before a rain marred match saw them overcome the South African team.

With South Africa losing to Netherlands on the last day of the group stage matches, a lifeline was thrown to the Pakistan team and they grabbed it with gleeful hands defeating Bangladesh to seal their semi final place after a rollercoaster run.
